Choose a reward value recipients can actually use

Start with what recipients can do with the reward. A simple fixed amount is easier to explain and reconcile. Use tiers when people can see why they qualify for different amounts and your team can apply the rule consistently.

Tier People Face value Total

B 30 R40 R1,200
C 10 R60 R600
Total 80 R2,600

Translate the goal into an approved amount

The three tiers above cost R2,600 in face value before fees. If the budget is R2,500, get approval to change the amounts or the number of rewards before ordering. Budget for everyone you approve. Include delivery charges, support and the supplier’s terms for unused value when you compare a fixed amount with tiers.

Check how recipients use the reward

Ask a few people who represent the audience if they can receive and use the reward. Someone who shares a phone or rarely checks email may struggle to receive a PIN even if the amount is right. Explain the amount and qualifying action before the campaign starts, then ask the pilot group what was unclear and whether the reward was usable. Record how many people answered and how you chose them. Use that feedback to decide whether to repeat the trial amount.

Test the cut-offs

Work through a result exactly on a tier boundary, a late entry and a corrected record. Make clear whether someone can qualify for more than one reward and how partial qualification or ties are handled. After the campaign, compare planned and actual counts by tier. If few people reached one tier, check the rule and the audience before changing the value.
