Budget airtime incentives for a sales team
Decide what happens when a salesperson reaches the higher tier. In the example below, paying R350 instead of R200 costs R2,650 across the team. Paying it on top of R200 costs R3,250. Settle that rule before you announce the targets.
| Attainment tier | Staff | Reward | Budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100% target | 8 | R200 | R1,600 |
| 110% target | 3 | R350 | R1,050 |
| Total | 11 | R2,650 |

Turn the eligibility rule into a budget
The table counts each of the 11 people once and excludes supplier charges. If the three people in the higher tier also get the R200 award, add R600 to the budget. State the rule on the approval sheet and in the announcement.
Make attainment verifiable
Agree on the sales report, measurement period and date results become final. Set rules for returns, cancellations, shared accounts, territory changes, new starters and leave. Have sales operations or finance certify the results before the reward list goes to the team issuing the airtime.
Ask two managers to calculate the same sample roster independently. Include someone on each threshold and a return recorded after the cut-off. If the managers get different results, agree which report and timing rule determine the payout. Make sure staff know who reviews disputed sales records and when they can expect payment.
Match rewards to the approved sales results
Check for people listed in two territories, staff who changed roles and late adjustments before preparing the batch. Confirm recipient details, choose direct recharge or voucher delivery and assign someone to handle incorrect details. Keep the dated source report, approved list and supplier issue file linked by a reference so finance can trace payments and any later corrections. If a result changes after issue, keep the original result and record who approved the correction. Agree with finance how to record the face value and any charges.
