How much electricity Eskom sells to redistributors
Eskom sold 78,275 GWh of electricity to redistributors in the year ended March 2026. That was 718 GWh less than a year earlier. Their share of Eskom’s sales still rose from 41.6% to 44.0% because Eskom’s total sales fell faster. Five years of Eskom sales
The financial years below end on 31 March. Eskom reports sales volumes in gigawatt-hours (GWh). Freepaid calculated the share by dividing sales to redistributors by Eskom’s total sales, including international sales.

From 2025 to 2026, sales to redistributors fell 0.9%, while total Eskom sales fell 6.2%. Industrial sales alone fell from 43,153 to 33,457 GWh. That drop of 9,696 GWh accounts for about 83% of the net decline in Eskom’s total sales. Some categories moved the other way. Eskom’s residential category rose from 8,776 to 9,043 GWh. Where the sale is counted
When Eskom supplies a municipal distributor, the bulk sale appears in the redistributor category. When the municipality sells that power to a home or business, the sale appears in the municipality’s records. Adding those volumes would count some of the same electricity twice. Eskom’s residential category covers its own sales in that category and includes prepaid electricity and public lighting.
